Annual Scholarship and Professional Recognition Awards

   
      Each year the Syracuse Press Club honors the best in journalism in print, broadcast and new media. At this update we are in the process of collating the awards and sending them to judges in several markets.  Upon completion awards will be handed out to winners at the annual banquet.

Selwyn Kershaw Professional Standards Award

Selwyn Kershaw was an SPC president and copy editor of the Syracuse Herald-Journal noted for his high standards of journalism.  Click here for a list of past winners .

The Gus Bliven-Joe Ganley-Mario Rossi Career Achievement Award
Named in memory of Post-Standard columnist Luther F. "Gus" Bliven;
Herald-Journal editor, reporter, and columnist Joe Ganley, the first president of the Syracuse Press Club; and Herald-Journal and Post-Standard editor and columnist Mario Rossi.

The Philip A. Hofmann President's award for Best News Source.
Philip Hofmann was a managing editor of the Syracuse Herald-Journal/Herald-American and SPC president whose standards strived for the most effective job of serving public interest by the news media.  This award is bestowed on people in government, business, and community organizations who effectively work with the media to communicate important public information. Click
